The story of Le Four à Chaux (lime kiln)

It got his name from its first role, in the 19th century: the lime kiln was used to change the limestone into lime by the means of a big furnace heated up with wood. It needed to be close to limestone and forests but far enough from the village to prevent risks of fires.

The kiln was built in the small building while the bigger one was used to house the miller and his family. One of the numerous springs of the Luberon was diverted towards the pond thus allowing the miller to plant trees and set up a garden.

The Protestant Reformed Church of France (Eglise Réformée de France) inherited the entire place in 1984. It turned the lime kiln and its outbuildings into a warm and welcoming lodge and the main house became a presbytery.

The Association "Accueil-Rencontre" was formed then and, today, its President together with the board of directors, strive for this whole structure to be a place of meeting and work of the Church.
